Mamata Banerjee Warns Protesting Doctor With 4-Hour Ultimatum To End Strike

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee warned state’s junior doctors Thursday afternoon with an ultimatum to end the strike and return back to work within four hours or else leave the hostel.

Reaching out to the agitated junior doctors at the state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata the CM issued a four-hour ultimatum to return back to work.

Junior doctors launched a strike Tuesday protesting alleged assault of a colleague by relatives of a patient who had died on Monday at the NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

It is learned the junior doctor was beaten by family members of the patient. He suffered a head injury and his current condition is critical. He is being treated at a private hospital.

Mamata Banerjee said the junior doctors are outsiders and state government would not support them if they continue the strike.

Condemning the doctors she said, “Policemen die in the line of duty but the police don’t go on a strike.”

Outdoor patient departments (OPD) are shut down since Tuesday at every government hospitals in the state from 9 am to 9 pm.

The junior doctors are demanding better security and justice to the incident. Police is also being accused of not taking action.
