Rohtak: Special Court of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 10-10 years in jail for two cases of rape. Ram Rahim will have to complete these two sentences separately. This means that Ram Rahim will have to spend 20 years in jail altogether. Apart from this, it has also been ordered to give 14 lakh rupees to both the victims. Judge of the special court of the CBI, Jagdeep Singh has pronounced this verdict in the Sunaria jail near Rohtak. Dera chief is guilty of the misdeeds of two former disciples. The Special Court of the CBI has given the order of Ram Rahim Section 376, 511 and 506. During the hearing in the Rohtak prison, the lawyers of Ram Rahim had appealed to the court to be gentle towards him. Lawyers told Ram Rahim as a social worker while saying that he has been working for the welfare of the people, hence Ram Rahim’s punishment should be softened.
Ram Rahim was crying in court
Justice Jagdeep Singh, in a court in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail, declared Ram Rahim guilty of rigorous imprisonment for 10-10 years (20 years) in 2 cases of rape in a very strong security arrangement. In addition, the judge ruled Ram Rahim to pay Rs 14 lakh to both the victims. The court had given 10-10 minutes time to the court of the defendants and defendants to present their arguments. Before the sentence was pronounced, Ram Rahim had been crying in court and adding his hand was demanding mercy from the judge. On August 25, a special CBI court of Sirsa had convicted Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the Sadhvi Rape case.
Ram Rahim’s lawyers demanded softening of punishment
Three lawyers of Gurmeet Singh, appearing in the court in Rohtak jail, appealed Rahim, “Ram Rahim Singh is a social worker. He has been working for the welfare of the people. Therefore, the punishment should be softened against them. ‘ During this, Ram Rahim also continued to demand his mercy by adding his hand in front of the judge. While the lawyers of the CBI kept their side in fewer words, Gurmeet Singh had sought more punishment from the court in this case. The CBI argued that it was a case of not only rape but the constant sexual harassment of breaking trust.
Arsonist reports from some areas before being sentenced
There are reports that supporters of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, are being attacked in many places even before the punishment was announced. According to the reports, in Sirsa, the Dera supporters set fire to two vehicles. There are reports of fire from Phulka too. However, there is no news of any major loss at the moment. It is being told that the police is investigating the case.
Violence erupted when convicted
On August 25, the special CBI court of Sirsa had convicted Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the Sadhvi Rape Case. After the court’s decision, the Dera supporters had fiercely killed in the five states of the country including Haryana and Punjab. Not only that, all the incidents of stone-fire, arson and sabotage in Panchkula and Sirsa were carried out by the Dera supporters. More than 30 people had lost their lives in this violence.
