There has been a flood of reports that the mobile number you have from July 2018 will be 13 digits from July. Your mobile numbers will change. Actually, this news is bogus and do not pay any attention to it.
Your mobile number will remain of 10 digits. On Wednesday, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has clearly said that there is no such proposal. False news is spreading on social media and news websites.
What is the 13-digit mobile number reality?
DoT has ordered all telecom service providers in the country to start issuing a 13-digit mobile number for SIM-based machine-to-machine (M2M) (note that this word is not mobile to mobile). DoT has also stated in its report that it will run with the 10 digits mobile number.
In Our Research, We Found that there is no existence of such reports and claims that only 13 digits will be a mobile number from July. A 10 digit mobile number will be maintained for common mobile users.
What is Machine to Machine service?
Machine to machine (M2M) service is the technique through which the network connected devices exchange information and execute specific tasks when a person gives the command. In Our country, telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL provide this service to their enterprise customers. For example, under the M2M of Airtel, services like Smart Metering, Asset Tracking Solutions, Equipment Monitoring Solutions and Traffic Management Solutions are provided.
