Released on April 28, Baahubali 2 had broken all records of advance booking. There were 12 tickets sold every second over Friday. In non-core regions, the occupancy was 95% whereas in main areas such as Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana and Karnataka the theatres were houseful.
The movie had earned more than Rs. 100 crores on the first day of its launch. In terms of overall collection, the movie has surpassed its predecessor Baahubali 1, it earned Rs 6.5 billion. Although the figures haven’t been disclosed yet, the earnings of Baahubali 2 seem to be nearing a 7 billion mark just in its first week.
Bollywood movie PK is in the first position with 7.9 billion and Dangal is in the second position with an overall collection of 7.3 billion which brings Baahubali 2 in the third position. However, Baahubali still hasn’t completed its full one week and has already started topping the charts.
While the movie is breaking records in the country it hasn’t failed to get noticed in the foreign screens. It was in the top three earners at the US Box Office after Fate of the Furious and How to be a Latin Lover. Baahubali 2 outdid the Hollywood movie The Circle starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson.
After Hollywood, the Chinese film industry is regarded as the highest earner with its movie The Mermaid. Japanese movie Spirited Away is the next big earner in international markets.
